Your support is giving hope and education to children in Timor-Leste.
In Timor-Leste, many children face extreme poverty, limited access to education, and a lack of opportunities for a better life. Shallom School is changing that. We provide free education, nutritious meals, basic healthcare, and emotional support — giving children the tools to dream and achieve a brighter future.
From early literacy to essential life skills, we prepare children for a lifetime of opportunities.
Daily meals and basic healthcare ensure our students can learn and grow in good health.
A place where every child feels valued, supported, and encouraged.
From war-torn beginnings to a future of hope through education.
Shallom School (originally Centro de Ensino e Treinamento Lorosae) was founded on March 20, 2000, by the Brazilian NGO Junta Administrativa de Missões (JAMI). In the aftermath of Timor-Leste’s struggle for independence and years of conflict, JAMI arrived with a vision: to restore hope and rebuild lives through education.
In its early days, the school began as a small preschool with just a handful of students and volunteer teachers, working with limited resources but with abundant faith and determination. The mission was simple yet powerful — to provide children with access to basic courses in Portuguese, English, computer skills, and cooking, while offering early childhood, primary, and junior secondary education, all grounded in Christian values and taught in Portuguese.
Over time, the school grew in structure and recognition. It is now officially accredited by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Justice of Timor-Leste. Today, Shallom School provides education from preschool through 9th grade, nurturing not only knowledge but also character, faith, and opportunities for a brighter future.
Who we are
Shallom School is a Christ-centred learning school committed to educating the whole child—heart, mind, character, and purpose. We believe every child is uniquely created by God, filled with potential, and worthy of an environment where they are known, loved, respected, and encouraged to flourish.
Through quality education, Christian values, strong relationships, and a culture of excellence, we equip our students to think wisely, live with integrity, grow in confidence, and use their gifts to positively influence the world around them. True to our name, Shallom, we seek to cultivate peace, wholeness, belonging, and purpose in everything we do.
We learn. We love. We respect. We serve.
Our vision
Our vision is to educate our students with the love of God, developing critical and creative thinking, good character, Christian values, and a teachable heart to learn, love, respect, and serve.
